Privacy policy

This site is a set of static pages. There is no application server behind it, no database, no user accounts and no login. Nothing you do here is written to a record held by Mission Rebuild Nepal.

Specifically:

• —We set no cookies of our own, and the site does not ask you to accept any.
• —We run no analytics package, no visitor counter, no tag manager and no advertising script, and no third-party script of any kind. The pages that ask you to give do embed GoFundMe's own fundraiser card, which is a frame loaded from GoFundMe — see below.
• —The contact form does not send anything anywhere. It assembles the text you typed into a pre-addressed draft and hands it to the mail application on your own device. You send it yourself, from your own address, and you can change it or abandon it first.
• —The only information that reaches us through this site is what you choose to put in an email or a telephone call.

Two qualifications, because a policy that overstates itself is worthless. First, the site is served by a hosting provider, and hosting providers keep server logs; that is covered under log files below. Second, some pages link out to services we do not control — a payment page, a fundraising platform, a social network. Once you follow one of those links you are on their site, under their policy.

By using this website you accept the terms set out on this page. If you do not accept them, the remedy is to stop using the site and not to send us anything.

Where we ask you for personal information, we tell you at that point why we are asking. We do not ask for more than we need to answer you.

If you contact us directly — by the contact form, by email, by telephone or by post — we receive whatever you put in that message. Typically that is your name, your email address or telephone number, the contents of the message, any attachment you send, and anything else you choose to tell us.

If you make a donation, the payment is handled by the payment provider you chose, not by this website. That provider collects your payment details under its own privacy policy; we receive from it the record of the donation, which includes your name and the amount unless you asked the provider to withhold them.

Mission Rebuild Nepal publishes donor acknowledgements. If you would prefer your name not to appear in a published acknowledgement, tell us and it will not.

We use what you send us in order to:

• —answer your question, or route it to whoever can answer it;
• —process and acknowledge a donation, and issue a receipt for tax purposes;
• —keep you informed about the project or appeal you supported, if you asked to be kept informed;
• —meet our record-keeping and reporting obligations as a 501(c)(3) organisation;
• —investigate a complaint or a concern that has been raised with us.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not rent, trade or otherwise pass it to anyone for their own marketing.

Like almost every website, this one is served by a hosting provider that keeps standard server logs. Those logs typically record the internet protocol (IP) address a request came from, the browser and operating system reported by that request, the internet service provider, a date and time stamp, and the page requested.

Server logs exist so that a host can run and secure its servers. We do not link them to any information that identifies you, and we do not use them to build a profile of you or to follow you between sites.

Mission Rebuild Nepal sets no cookies on this site. There is no preference to remember, no session to hold open and no account to keep you signed in to.

GoFundMe is the exception, and it is theirs rather than ours. The pages that ask you to give embed GoFundMe’s fundraiser card — the panel showing the total raised, with their donate button in it. That card is a frame served by GoFundMe, and it can set their cookies and record that it was displayed to you, under their privacy policy rather than this one. It loads on the pages that carry it whether or not you use it. Beside the card we publish our own link and QR code, which do nothing until you follow them. Donating itself always happens on GoFundMe’s site, never here, and we receive no data back from any of it.

Your browser lets you inspect, block and delete cookies for any site, and the settings for doing so are documented by each browser maker. Nothing on this site will stop working if you block cookies entirely.

There is no advertising on this site. We do not carry advertisements, we have no advertising partners, and no third-party ad server, ad network, web beacon or retargeting pixel runs on these pages.

The previous version of this website was built on a hosting platform whose standard policy text named Google as an advertising vendor and described its DART cookie. That text described the platform rather than anything this organisation did, and it does not apply to this site. It has been removed rather than carried forward.

This policy covers this website only. It does not cover a payment provider, a fundraising platform, a social network, a news site or any other service you reach by following a link from here. Each of those has its own privacy policy, and we would encourage you to read the policy of any service before you give it your details.

We have no access to, and no control over, any data those services collect about you.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, a California consumer has the right to:

• —ask a business that collects personal data to disclose the categories and the specific pieces of personal data it holds about that consumer;
• —ask that business to delete the personal data it has collected about them;
• —ask a business that sells personal data not to sell theirs.

Mission Rebuild Nepal does not sell personal information, so the third right has nothing to operate on here. To exercise the first or the second, write to missionrebuildnp@gmail.com. We aim to respond within one month.

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, data protection law gives you the following rights over personal data we hold about you:

• —Access. You may ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• —Rectification. You may ask us to correct anything you believe is wrong, or to complete anything you believe is incomplete.
• —Erasure. You may ask us to erase your personal data, subject to the records we are legally required to keep.
• —Restriction. You may ask us to restrict how we process your personal data.
• —Objection. You may object to our processing of your personal data.
• —Portability. You may ask us to transfer the data we hold to another organisation, or to you directly.

To exercise any of these, write to missionrebuildnp@gmail.com. We aim to respond within one month, and we do not charge for a request. Note that Mission Rebuild Nepal is a small volunteer organisation incorporated in Virginia; we will do what the request asks, but we do not hold ourselves out as having a formal data protection officer or a representative in the European Union.

Part of protecting children online is knowing what they are doing there, and we would encourage parents and guardians to take an interest in it.

Mission Rebuild Nepal does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. There is nowhere on this site to register, comment or upload anything, so there is no obvious route by which a child could supply it. If you believe a child has sent us such information, contact us at missionrebuildnp@gmail.com and we will remove it from our records.

If this site changes in a way that changes what it does with information — if analytics were added, for instance, or a form that genuinely submitted data — this page would be updated before that change went live, and the date at the top would change with it.
