01 · Urgent rescue and relief

When disaster strikes, we move in days, not months.

This is our fastest work: getting shelter, food, clean water and medical care to families in the first hours and weeks of an emergency. Right now that means the flood in Rasuwa and the Trishuli corridor. In the past it meant the earthquake and the pandemic.

    How we work: Local volunteers on the ground, supplies bought near the disaster, and priority to the most vulnerable: elders, infants and expecting mothers first.

02 · Rebuild and recovery

Our recovery focus now is the flood survivors, and only them.

Our earlier rebuilding projects are complete and closed: the 800 transition homes in Sipapokhare, the school projects and the national oxygen plants are done. Every dollar we raise for recovery now goes to the families this flood displaced. And we will not decide what they need from abroad: we will work with the Government of Nepal to identify verified needs on the ground first.

  • Step 1 · Assess with the Government of Nepal

    Identify what survivors actually need

    Working with Nepali authorities and local partners, we will confirm where the damage is worst and what will genuinely help flood-affected families: homes, livelihoods and community infrastructure along the Trishuli corridor. That comes before we commit a single rupee.

    Why this matters: Recovery that is not coordinated with the government and the community can duplicate effort, or miss the families who need it most.

  • Step 2 · Act, one of two ways

    Rebuild directly, or give where it reaches survivors fastest

    • Initiate our own rebuilding effort, delivering directly and accounting for every rupee, as we did in Sipapokhare, where MRN is best placed to help.
    • Contribute proceeds to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund, Nepal, where the government is best positioned to deliver relief at national scale.

    The test is simple: Whichever path gets the most help to flood survivors, most accountably. We will report which we choose, and why.

How the money moves

We account for every nail

Funds are never released in one lump. They move in stages, gated on receipts from the field, so a gift is traceable from the card to a family’s front door.

  1. 40%

    Released against an estimate

    The Nepal country director and board submit a monthly estimate. Forty per cent of it is transferred and is available immediately.

  2. ✓

    Receipts checked

    When between half and four fifths of that money is spent, the Nepal team must send receipts and a full expense breakdown to the US office.

  3. 30%

    Released in two further tranches

    The balance follows in two chunks of 30 per cent, each verified against real spend.

Minimal admin cost.
Straight to the people.

Our board and volunteers take no salary, and we hold administrative costs below 15 per cent. In Nepal no money moves without three independent signatures, and spending is recorded to the granular detail, down to a single nail or brick.

What has been given to this appeal, and what has been spent from it, is published as it is reconciled.
